A bit of old Willys Overland Wagoneer!

by Henry Shaw.
(Northampton)

A Woody Wagoneer.

A Woody Wagoneer.

Hi Tony.
Here is another oddball for you. Remember the Willys Overland company of Willow Run Ohio.(the orriginal JEEP manufacturer).
Well back in 1963 My Brother and I bought a 1954 Wagoneer from a dealer in ex military vehicles. It had been in the South African Army until 1962, then purchsed by SA Students along with one other Wagoneer and three Land Rovers and driven all the way to London. However they ran out of money so had to sell all the vehicles in order to pay their way home.
It was a rare example because it was right hand drive. Also ahead of its time in having free wheel hubs on front wheels. The engine was the 4 cylinder "F"Head Hurricane engine, 2.2 ltr. My Brother and I used it for towing and launching boats, and other transport jobs. I sold the vehicle in 1974 to a purchaser in south Wales who converted it into a mud buggy.
Hope this is also of interest to you.
Yours wacky driver. Henry Shaw.
