84 Pontiac Trans Am Pics

POWERTRAIN

• GM Performance 350 cu, 350 hp Crate Engine.

• Holley 650 carb .

• 700 R4 Trans with 2000 stahl and B&M shift kit.

• Stainless headers.

• 3 inch stainless Flowmaster exhaust with no converter.

History:

Bought it from my dad for 1500 bucks, been working on it ever since.

When I first put the car on the road after buying it from my dad I got it stuck in the mud in front of his old garage.

The neighbor had to pull me out of the mud with his truck. Needless to say after we got the car out and I had covered it in mud I got pulled over by a cop about 4 miles down the road. The cop then proceeded to ask me if if the car would actually pass inspection after the 10 day sticker ran up. It was a real mess when I first got it. It's come a long way.

There are always projects when it comes to my bird. I will never be done with it.

The 1984 Pontiac Trans Am was part of the third generation of these North American muscle cars. The third generation included the model years between 1982 and 1992.

These were trying times for high performance cars. Due to the fast fuel rising prices, the emphasis of all car manufacturers was on fuel economy and no longer on power. But how could Pontiac still build a car with a smaller engine that performed almost like it's predecessors with larger more powerful engines?

Pontiac looked at reducing weight and making the car more aerodynamic. And in spite of all the challenges that they faced, they were successful in doing so. They developed a car that was about 500lbs lighter than it's predecessors and much more aerodynamic with a more sloped windshield, the hidden headlights and a functional rear spoiler to mention only a few modifications.

All of these changes paid off for GM making the Pontiac Firebird the fastest American car on the market by 1989.
