The 79 Chevy Camaro Z28 Pics, Specs and History
Hi: My name is Sandra Gagnon from Waco, Texas, United States and these are my 79 Chevy Camaro Z28 Pics, Specs and History.
Here are some of the 79 Chevy Camaro Z28 Specs and Mods:
History:
The Engine in this Car is a 468 big block. The lower end is pretty much stock, but the top end is built to the hilt. This way it keeps the compression low, but has a lot of top end.
The transmission is a TH350 with a manual valve body with GER 4000 stall. I'm running stage 1 Flow Masters with 3 Inch Pipes and adjustable Drag Shocks on the front. It has sub frame connectors and Drive Shaft Loop. I'm still working on getting the cage installed.
I have had this car for 17 years. I bought the car from a used car lot. When I got the car it had a crappy 350 Engine that was out of an old dirt track car and it was a factory 4 speed car. I drove that way for about 4 years and then I started racing it for the fun of it at a little track that did mostly heads up racing. The more I did it the faster I wanted to go..
A Funny Story:
I think the funniest thing that ever happened with this car, was after I had put a SB 406 in it. I raced this motor for about 2 years, then one night I was running at this little track, the car was running the best that it had ever ran, I pulled up for the 3rd pass of the night, launched it off the line, and before I could even shift to second gear it just shut down.
When I opened the door to get out, it was gushing oil from underneath. I had blown the engine! When I was getting it on the trailer, a spectator came up to me and asked if this was my car. I told him it was, and he handed me a Cam Plug that had blown out and hit him in the leg. That night I slung 2 Pistons through the Oil Pan, cracked the Bell Housing of the Transmission, broke the Crank in 4 places, and the Cam... Well it came out in little pieces!
The block was totally shot, the 2 rear cylinders had totally come apart.
It took me about 3 years to totally restore this car to its current state. It's painted black with a blue pearl, and has "454" in flames ghosted in on the hood scoop.
Present or Future Projects:
I just bought a 78 Z-28 that is a total basket case. I got the interior shelled out, and have been ordering all of the interior trim and carpet a little at a time. I should have it up and running by march 07!

Here is a Picture of the proud owner standing by her beloved 79 Chevy Camaro Z28. The owner doesn't tell, but I suspect this Car has dual personality. It looks like it's built to race but it's also street legal. Please click on the Pic to enlarge. |
