Here are the Camaro Type LT Pics, Specs and History
Hi: My name is Heather Wallingford from Georgia United States and just below are my 78 Camaro Type LT Pics, Specs and History.
Here are some of the 78 Camaro Type LT Pics, Specs and Mods:
ENGINE
History:
I bought the car at a car lot next to an Autozone in April of 2008. It was the owners personal car. He bought the car for his daughter because she said she wanted a light blue car. When he bought it she decided she wanted nothing to do with a car or her license. The car was for sale for about 3 years originally $5,000. It never sold.
I guess he was going to turn it into a race car and gave up. He cut a hole in the hood, had a spacer and a larger carb as well as a 4x12 air filter sticking out of the hood. I bought the car for $3,800. I am currently in the process of restoring the Car. I have already pulled the motor and did a complete R&R, got new tires and rims, new brake booster and master cylinder, new brake hoses, new carb (it had a Holley 750 then I put a Holley 600 on it, and now it has the Edelbrock).
I have plexiglass in the hood since I had to be able to drive the car rain or shine. I have a new stereo system installed, Pioneer head unit, SPL 6x9's and a 10" MA Audio sub. I had a new windshield installed. Ihe worst issues I had with the car was a really bad oil leak, I would lose a quart and a half in about a week, the car shot flames out of the carb, and my brakes are still a bit weird, the rotors are warped, and either a caliper is locking up, or my proportioning valve is shot. But all in all it has been a great car, and its my pride and joy.
Additional Info about the Car and the Owner:
I have managed to lose control of the car a couple of times. When it is raining the car has a tendancy to want to spin out and I can control it most of the time. This one time I could not correct the car, I spun out and ended up backwards in a turn lane in front of the Navy base. I lost control another time, but it was dry. I ended up in the median, and busted the bead on the right front tire, luckily I was across from where I work so I took the tire and got it aired up and put it back on the car. The guys laughed at me needless to say.
I have never gotten a speeding ticket but I was close to getting one one day when I was going home. I have to go through a school zone to get to the house, I didnt realize the flashing lights were on and I was doing about 30 over. I passed a cop and all he did was flash his lights. I should have been pulled over but I just got the lights and I don't wear my seat belt so that would have been 2 tickets.
I almost caused an accident because of what some one else did. I DO NOT like people to ride my butt and that was exactly what this lady was doing. She got so close that I could no longer see her head lights... she was in a Trailblazer so I know she was really, really close. I slammed on my brakes, she swerved around me and the van next to me backed off. I caught up to her looked a her and her friend, shook my head and spead off.
I plan on doing a full restoration and when my motor goes I plan on getting a 383, 385 or a SBC 400. Also a new trans and rear end will be needed.

Side v iew of the 78 Camaro. I got new tires and rims, new brake booster and master cylinder, new brake hoses, new carb (it had a Holley 750 then I put a Holley 600 on it, and now it has the Edelbrock). The opening on the Hood where the Air Filter of the Holley 750 protruded through is covered with a piece of Plexiglass. Click to enlarge. |
Here is a Picture of the Engine right after it was pulled out of the Car to have all the work done to it. It looked like it needed some extensive cleaning and rebuilding, but eventually what needed to be done was done and the Engine is now back in the Car and running like new again. Picture of the Engine cleaned, painted and rebuilt ready to go back into the Engine Compartment. The owner did a very good job making this Engine look like new again. Originally it had a Holley (actually it had 2 Holleys, but at different times of course) but now is going to have a 600 CFM Edelbrock Carb. Click to enlarge. |
