History of the 73 Chevy Nova:

This Car was originally purchased by my father in 1973 after he sold his 70 Nova SS. The car has been through a few owners, but has remained in the family. In the early eighties, the car was given to my Grandpa, who needed a car to get around and to do errands. As my grandpa has owned it, over the years as it rusted a bit, he would sand it off and touch up the paint with a paintbrush.

It looks good from a distance though, because all you see are little blotches of paint here and there. It's what they refer to as 'The Perfect 20', looks perfect from 20 feet away. There is some rust on the car, and it's far from looking perfect as most of the pictures show. The front corners of the doors are rusting, and the front of the rear wheel-wells are starting to be eaten up, but from a distance, you can't tell, so this car looks great.

I absolutely have loved this car from day 1 when I first remember seeing it as a kid. I used to try to help my dad when he did his maintenance stuff on it. He'd let me put the nuts back on after he put the tires back on.

This car holds a lot of memories for me, for example, my mom has a tape recording of me and my other Grandpa (Grandpa Hartwig) from when I was a small boy, not sure how old, and you could hear me arguing with him about 'MY NOVA'.

There was one other time, and I remember this well, my mom had the nova and we were in the driveway washing the car. I was washing the hubcap/rim on the passenger front tire, and I guess I broke the valve somehow and the tire started to hiss. I was scared!! I was upset because I had hurt the car. I can still picture my mom putting the jack on the car and we waited till my dad got home to fix it. I don't remember much after that, but I can still see the pictures in my mind, of the car sitting on the driveway on the jack.

When my grandfather picked me up from school in it, when I was in Grade 1, he would tell all my friends, "This is David's Car". I was the only kid in Grade 1 with his own vehicle. I can still see the picture in my mind, of the car parked at the corner of the street where my grandpa would park and wait for me. He always managed to park in the same spot all the time.

Well, it's mine now, and has been for almost 10 years (since 1995). My parents and grandparents decided to allow me to use and drive the nova on weekends after my parents bought a new car in '95 to replace the K-Kar. I was a little hard on the old car, and my parents didn't want me to ruin another car, so I was allowed to use the nova for weekend cruising only. Of course depending on how I treated and drove it, it might last awhile. My dad went as far as taking some pictures of it simply because he didn't know how long the car would last with me behind the wheel.

Well, I simply baby and worship this car. I LOVE IT!... This car means the world to me. Words can't explain it. This may sound silly, or you may be able to relate, but my life seems to revolve around it in many ways.

One of the MAIN conditions of getting the car was... I would become my Grandpa's personal chauffeur anytime to take him any place he needed or wanted to go.
