This is my second 70 Roadrunner
(Moulin Rouge). I ordered my first one from the factory in the spring of 1970
and was later told by the dealer that it was the ONLY Moulin Rouge Roadrunner
sold in the state of Minnesota. I'm not sure that was true but I assume it was.
Chrysler Historical, forwarded
me the production numbers for 1970 Moulin Rouge Roadrunners which were 47
hardtops , 44 post cars and 6 convertibles. That's nation wide.
Our Roadrunner has a .060
overbore 440-cid with a Holley 770 Street Avenger 4bbl. carb. A Racer Brown 280
cam adds a nice lopping idle. It also has a Flowmaster dual exhaust system along
with the factory pistol grip equipped Hurst Competition plus four speed console
mounted shifter.
Since
we purchased the car in 1998 I have refurbished the whole interior installing
new carpet and new inside door panels. Refinished all plastic dash panels, cut,
stained and installed real walnut wood panels on the center console with a real
Richard Petty signature as you can see here.
I removed all the gauges and
sent them to be re-silkscreened and calibrated. I then replaced all dash and
gauge light bulbs and reinstalled the gauges and all plastic dash panels.
All the engine bright work and
installation was done by myself also. The only custom work I didn't do in the
engine compartment was the powder coating of the NOS air filter lid and base
plate.
I have been asked a number of
times at car shows about the spark plug wire standoff setup that I have. I
fabricated them myself out of hollow stainless steel tubing with 1/4 threaded
stock cut to the length needed to keep the plug wires well above the exhaust
manifold heat. Each standoff is about 6 inches long.
